The Hana Highway is a stretch of road that connects Kahului to the historic town of Hana in east Maui. Winding through lush tropical rainforests and scenic lookouts, the highway has over 600 curves and passes over 59 bridges, many of which are one-lane and were originally built in 1910, along with the construction of the original highway.
Hawaii’s Big Island, referred to in order to avoid confusion, is the actual island of Hawaii. The largest and youngest of all the islands, it is also the only one that is still growing. Since January 3, 1983, Kilauea has continuously emitted lava, resulting in spectacular lava flows and an ever increasing size to the islands area.
